HubSpot vs Salesforce (2026): which CRM should a startup or scaling B2B team pick?
Most startups and B2B teams under roughly 50 reps should pick HubSpot, because it is faster to set up, has a real free tier, and keeps marketing and sales on one database; pick Salesforce when you already know you need deep customization, complex territories or quoting, or a CRM your future enterprise buyers and RevOps hires expect. Both can carry a company a long way, so the real question is how much admin you want to own.
Disclosure: I build HubSpot for most of my clients and Salesforce for some, and I run my own pipeline on Attio. This page covers list prices I checked on each vendor's pricing page on November 1, 2026, the feature gaps that matter at startup scale, and how I decide between them for a client.
Key takeaways
- Both have a free tier capped at 2 users: HubSpot Free CRM and Salesforce Free Suite.
- Entry paid tiers: HubSpot Sales Hub Starter lists at $20/seat/month (with a new-customer discount from $7), Salesforce Starter Suite is $25/user/month billed monthly or annually.
- Mid tier: HubSpot Professional is $90 to $100/seat/month plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee; Salesforce Pro Suite is $100/user/month billed annually.
- Salesforce replaced Enterprise and Unlimited with Core ($195), Advanced ($395) and Max ($550) per user per month, all billed annually.
- HubSpot Enterprise starts at $150/seat/month plus a required $3,500 onboarding fee.

HubSpot vs Salesforce pricing compared
At startup scale the list prices are closer than people expect. Five reps on HubSpot Sales Hub Starter come to $100 a month at the $20 list price, against $125 a month on Salesforce Starter Suite. At ten reps, HubSpot Professional runs $900 to $1,000 a month depending on billing term, plus the one-time $1,500 onboarding fee, while Salesforce Pro Suite is $1,000 a month billed annually. The gap opens at the top: ten seats of HubSpot Enterprise start at $1,500 a month plus $3,500 onboarding, while ten seats of Salesforce Core are $1,950 a month and Advanced is $3,950.
The bigger cost on Salesforce is rarely the license. A customized org usually needs a part-time admin or a consultant, and add-ons stack quickly: Agentforce for Sales starts at $125/user/month and Revenue Intelligence at $220/user/month. On HubSpot the cost jumps come from moving up a tier to unlock a single feature, and from contact-based pricing if you add Marketing Hub.
- Free: both cap at 2 users. HubSpot Free includes limited pipelines, 3 email templates and 1 meetings link; Salesforce Free Suite has no expiration date.
- Entry: HubSpot Starter $20/seat/month list (new customers see offers from $7); Salesforce Starter Suite $25/user/month, monthly or annual.
- Growth: HubSpot Professional $90 to $100/seat/month on an annual commitment plus $1,500 onboarding; Salesforce Pro Suite $100/user/month billed annually.
- Scale: HubSpot Enterprise from $150/seat/month plus $3,500 onboarding; Salesforce Core $195/user/month billed annually, replacing Enterprise Edition.
- Top end: Salesforce Advanced $395 and Max $550/user/month billed annually; Max bundles Agentforce, Slack Enterprise+ and 2.75M Flex Credits per org per year.
Features compared
Feature for feature, both cover pipelines, email sync, reporting and automation. The difference is shape: HubSpot gives you opinionated defaults that work on day one, Salesforce gives you a platform you configure. For a startup that matters more than any single checkbox.
- Setup: HubSpot is usable in days with sensible defaults; Salesforce Starter is quick too, but most teams that move to Core end up customizing objects, page layouts and permissions.
- Automation: HubSpot Starter allows up to 50 workflows and Professional up to 300; Salesforce Flow is more powerful and more technical, with Flow Orchestration sold as an add-on on several editions.
- Sales engagement: HubSpot sequences are built into Sales Hub from Starter; Salesforce Starter Suite includes built-in sales flows, and many Salesforce teams still add a dedicated engagement tool.
- Reporting: HubSpot Professional allows up to 100 custom reports and Enterprise up to 500; Salesforce reports and dashboards are deeper, with Tableau Next included from Core.
- Customization and data model: Salesforce wins clearly, with record types, profiles, sandboxes from Core and the Lightning platform; HubSpot is more constrained by design.
- AI: Salesforce bundles Agentforce into Max and sells it as an add-on from $125/user/month; HubSpot ships AI features across hubs and lists several sales features in beta.
- Marketing: HubSpot's Marketing Hub shares the same database, which is the main reason marketing-led startups pick it; Salesforce Starter and Pro Suites include email marketing, with larger needs going to separate products.
- Ecosystem: Salesforce has the largest admin, consultant and app ecosystem; HubSpot's is smaller but easier for a non-technical team to work with.
Who should pick HubSpot
- You are a startup or a B2B team under roughly 50 reps without a dedicated Salesforce admin.
- Marketing and sales need to share one database for attribution, lead scoring and handoff.
- You want sequences, meeting links and email tracking inside the CRM from the first paid tier.
- You would rather pay a known onboarding fee than fund ongoing admin work.
Who should pick Salesforce
- You sell to enterprises with complex territories, approval chains, quoting or CPQ needs.
- You have, or plan to hire soon, a RevOps person or admin who will own the org.
- You need sandboxes, granular permissions and a data model you can bend to unusual objects.
- Your board, acquirer or future enterprise customers expect Salesforce as the system of record.
The verdict
For most startups and scaling B2B teams, HubSpot is the safer first CRM. It costs about the same per seat as Salesforce at the entry and mid tiers, it needs far less admin, and it keeps marketing on the same records. The onboarding fees on Professional and Enterprise are real, so budget for them.
Salesforce earns its price when the sales process is genuinely complex or the company is heading upmarket fast. If you already know you will need sandboxes, territory management and a dedicated admin within a year, starting on Salesforce saves a painful migration later.
In my own work I build HubSpot for most clients and Salesforce for the ones whose process demands it. For my own pipeline I use Attio, which is worth a look if you want something lighter than either.
