The GTME Data Report, Q4 2026

Companies ask for less experience than GTM engineers have. 50% of the postings with an experience tag want two to five years, while the median GTM engineer is 9 years into their career. Advertised US pay centers on $157.5K, and 51% of live roles have fewer than 50 applicants.

This quarterly report puts both sides of the market together: 5,554 people whose LinkedIn career holds a GTM engineer title (3,918 hold one today) and 2,223 distinct GTM Engineer roles at 1,879 companies, posted since December 2025.

By Garrett Wolfe, founder of OneGTM. Published . This is separate from the annual State of GTM Engineering survey, which I co-authored. This one is built from LinkedIn profiles and job postings, with no survey answers.

Key findings

Q4 2026 edition. Postings to November 1, 2026; data as of November 2, 2026.

  1. People are taking the title faster than companies open seats. 1,438 people took a GTM engineer title for the first time in the first half of 2026, up 58% on the first half of 2025. Companies posted 1,228 new roles in the same six months. Corrected for what my data source misses, that is about 2 new title holders per new role.
  2. Postings ask for less experience than holders have. 50% of tagged postings ask for two to five years and 3% ask for 10+. Among current GTM engineers, 45% have 10+ years of career behind them.
  3. Advertised US pay centers on $157.5K. The median range is $138.5K to $180K across 444 roles.
  4. Most postings come down within about two months. 58% of postings aged one to two months are closed, and 76% of those aged two to three months.
  5. 51% of live roles have fewer than 50 applicants. 29% have fewer than 25 and 10% have more than 200.
  6. Most hiring companies have no GTM engineer yet. 26% of them already employ one that I can find, from 12% at companies of 1 to 10 people to 47% at 1,000+. I find about 56% of GTM engineers, so the true share is higher.
  7. Postings ask for AI tools far more than profiles name them. 35% of postings name Claude and 6% of profiles do.

Job holders are current GTM engineers. Tool rows for holders use established GTM engineers, and people undercount their tools on profiles, so read the order more than the size of each gap.

There is no pay column for job holders. LinkedIn profiles don't carry pay. The closest holder-side number is the separate State of GTM Engineering 2026 survey, which put US in-house median base at $135K. That survey measures base salary and my $157.5K is the midpoint of advertised ranges, some of which include commission, so the two aren't like for like.

Where roles outnumber people

Germany has 126 roles against 105 GTM engineers I found there, the only country with 30 or more GTM engineers where roles outnumber people. The SF Bay Area runs at 112 roles per 100 people and New York at 86. Pakistan (24) and France (34) have plenty of people and few local roles. The people side is undercounted everywhere, so trust the ranking more than any one ratio.

What it pays (US)

The median advertised range is $138.5K to $180K, and the middle half of midpoints falls between $137.5K and $185K.

Median advertised US range by location
LocationMedian rangeRoles
SF Bay Area$150K to $200K109
New York$140K to $180K105
Remote$136.5K to $180K78
Rest of US$130K to $175.5K106

Most postings don't put a level in the title (328 of the 444), and those land at $130K to $180K. Senior titles post $146K to $191.5K (36 roles), founding titles $150K to $200K (24 roles, a small sample), and head, manager and director titles $176.5K to $224.5K (28 roles, a small sample).

The median midpoint is $153K at companies of 51 to 200 people, $158K at 201 to 1,000 and $165K at 1,000+. By funding stage, Series B at $165K (33 roles), Series C and later at $160.3K (72 roles) and public companies at $154K (31 roles). The other stages are too small to read yet.

Postings asking for LLMs or agents have a $161K median midpoint against $150K for those that don't. Postings mentioning Clay sit at $155K against $160K, commission at $150K against $158K, Claude at $160K against $156K and Python at $160K against $156K. None of this controls for location or company size.

49% of the US LinkedIn postings I read carried a range, against 31% of all postings. Outside the US there are too few published ranges to say much (only Canada, United Kingdom and Germany have more than ten).

2,958 roles read. Closed includes postings LinkedIn has removed.

This is one snapshot of postings at different ages, and closed doesn't have to mean filled. 33% of roles were reposted at least once. Among postings 30 to 90 days old, 48% at companies of 1,000+ had closed, against 82% at companies of 1 to 10 and 85% at 11 to 50.

Who gets the jobs

For roles posted at least three months ago, I looked for someone who took a GTM engineer title at the same company from one month before the posting to six months after. I found one for 25% of roles (444 of 1,783), which is a floor since I only see about 56% of GTM engineers. This is a match on company and timing, so it doesn't prove that person filled that posting.

Of those matches, 72% were taking the title for the first time, 19% were already at the company and 73% were in the same country as the posting.

Applicants

I only counted live postings, because LinkedIn shows closed ones a "be among the first 25" placeholder whatever they really got. Live postings lean young, so these understate where a role ends up, and they only count applies made on LinkedIn.

How I did this

  • People. Blitz people search on 18 GTM engineer title variants, current and past, then each person's full career. A separate MoltSets sample of 300 profiles found 56% of them in this pull, so counts are a floor and "corrected" means multiplied by about 1.78.
  • Postings. Blitz's job index across 21 title queries, reaching back to about December 2025. Reposts and per-city clones are merged into one role, and recruiters and job boards are excluded from employer cuts.
  • Pay, applicants, open or closed. 2,958 roles read by LinkedIn job ID through an Apify scraper, plus a smaller sample of public LinkedIn pages and the public job boards of 708 companies. It isn't every posting yet.
  • Career length. Years since the first job on a LinkedIn profile, so it includes time before GTM. The years asked come from Blitz tags on about half of roles.
  • Small samples. Anything under 30 is called out or left out.
  • Refresh. This is a quarterly report. The next edition is planned for Q1 2027.
