Website traffic data (2026): using traffic growth as a sales signal, and where to get it
Website traffic data estimates how many people visit a company's site and where they come from. Sales teams use it two ways: as a size filter, since traffic tracks revenue for ecommerce, media, and consumer apps, and as a growth signal, since a site that doubled its visits in three months is a company with new budget and new problems. It belongs alongside the other buying signals in your scoring, not on its own.
Below is how OneGTM pulls traffic data, then the estimate platforms and the free rankings, with what each vendor publishes about price. Know one thing before you buy: every number here is an estimate from a panel, a DNS resolver, or search rankings. None of them see a company's own analytics, and they get worse as sites get smaller.
Key takeaways
- We pull traffic estimates per call through treg and Apify instead of paying for a seat.
- Similarweb is the reference for visit estimates, with a free checker limited to 3 searches a day and custom pricing for its API.
- Semrush Traffic & Market Pro is $289 a month; Ahrefs and SE Ranking estimate search traffic, which is not total visits.
- Tranco, Cloudflare Radar, and CrUX publish free popularity rankings, good for sizing a large list in buckets.
- Use the trend from one source, not the absolute number. Small B2B sites are estimated badly by everyone.
How OneGTM pulls website traffic data
For a scoring model we need a traffic number on thousands of domains, refreshed monthly, not a dashboard seat. We pull it per call and store each month's value, so the growth rate comes from our own history.
treg
OneGTM uses this
Pay-per-call gateway to 4,000+ endpoints from over 100 providers on one token. For traffic it includes DataForSEO's bulk traffic estimation, which returns organic and paid search traffic estimates for up to 1,000 domains in one call, and company traffic endpoints with visits and sources.
Best for: Traffic estimates on a whole account list without a seat license
Pricing: No subscription. You pay per call, with the price shown before each call and no markup. $1.00 free to start. Example: DataForSEO bulk traffic estimation for up to 1,000 domains at about $0.012 per call.
Apify
OneGTM uses this
Scraping platform whose store has several Similarweb scraper actors that return visits, rank, and traffic sources per domain. Useful when you want Similarweb-style numbers on a list without a Similarweb contract.
Best for: Similarweb-style visit estimates on a list, per result
Pricing: Free plan with $5 of usage a month; Starter $19/month, Scale $199/month, Business $999/month, each including the same amount in usage. The most popular Similarweb actor charges $0.013 per result.
Traffic estimate platforms
These model total visits or search traffic from clickstream panels, crawled rankings, and partner data. Similarweb, Semrush, and Datos estimate total visits across channels; Ahrefs, SE Ranking, and DataForSEO estimate traffic from search.
Similarweb
Visit, engagement, and channel estimates for any website, plus a Sales Intelligence product with traffic growth signals and CRM enrichment. The API can be bought without the full platform.
Best for: Total visit estimates and traffic trend signals in the CRM
Pricing: Free website traffic checker, limited to 3 searches a day. Platform, Sales Intelligence, and API pricing are custom.
Semrush Traffic & Market
Semrush's traffic toolkit: visits, engagement, and channel mix for any domain, top pages, market share among competitors, and competitor monitoring.
Best for: Teams already on Semrush that want visit estimates too
Pricing: Traffic & Market Pro $289/month with a 7-day free trial. The free plan only shows sample domains.
Datos
A Semrush company that sells clickstream data from a panel of millions of people in 185 countries, including domain traffic feeds, for companies building their own models.
Best for: Raw clickstream feeds for data teams
Pricing: Custom pricing; free data sample on request.
Ahrefs
SEO platform whose site explorer estimates organic search traffic and its trend for any domain. API access is included on Lite and above.
Best for: Organic search traffic trends
Pricing: Starter $29/month; Lite $129/month, Standard $249/month, Advanced $449/month, Enterprise $1,499/month with an annual commitment. Up to 17% off billed annually. Ahrefs Free covers your own site.
SE Ranking
SEO platform with competitor research that estimates search traffic for any domain, plus an API add-on with research credits.
Best for: Cheaper search traffic estimates with an API
Pricing: Core $103.20/month and Growth $223.20/month billed annually ($129 and $279 monthly). API add-on $45/month, annual only. Enterprise custom.
DataForSEO
Pay-as-you-go SEO data API. Its Labs bulk traffic estimation endpoint returns estimated organic and paid search traffic for up to 1,000 domains per request.
Best for: Search traffic estimates on large lists by API
Pricing: Pay as you go with a $50 minimum top-up and no subscription. Labs endpoints cost $0.012 per task plus $0.00012 per item. $1 trial credit.
Free popularity rankings
These rank domains by popularity rather than estimating visits. They tell you, for free, whether a site sits in the top 10,000 or the top million. They give no visit counts.
Tranco
Research ranking of the top one million domains, averaged over 30 days from Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, CrUX, and Cloudflare Radar to resist manipulation. Downloads, an API, and BigQuery access. Check the upstream licenses before commercial use.
Best for: A stable popularity rank for a large list
Pricing: Free download.
Cloudflare Radar
Domain rankings from DNS queries to Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 resolver: an ordered top 100 daily, and weekly unordered buckets from the top 200 to the top 1,000,000. Available by API with a token.
Best for: Bucketing domains by popularity from DNS data
Pricing: Free to view; the API needs a Cloudflare API token. Datasets are licensed CC BY-NC 4.0.
Chrome UX Report (CrUX)
Google's public dataset of real Chrome user experience by origin, including a popularity rank in buckets such as top 1k, 10k, 100k, and 1M. Queryable in BigQuery.
Best for: Popularity buckets from real Chrome navigations
Pricing: Free dataset; BigQuery queries bill at Google's rates.
Prices are from each vendor's site as of October 2026 and change often, so check before you buy. This is an opinionated list, not a paid ranking. Some links are referral links that may earn us a credit; that never changes what you pay or who makes the list.

What website traffic tells a seller
Traffic is a size signal and a momentum signal. For ecommerce brands, publishers, marketplaces, and consumer apps, visits track revenue closely enough to tier accounts. For B2B software it is weaker as a size measure, but a sharp change still means something happened: a launch, a funding round, a rebrand, or a campaign that worked.
Direction matters more than level. A company growing from 20,000 to 60,000 monthly visits in a quarter is hiring, spending, and stretching its tools. A company whose traffic halved may be cutting, switching agencies, or open to a fix.
- Fast growth: new budget, new hires, and tools that no longer fit.
- Sudden drop: an SEO problem, a migration gone wrong, or a cut in paid spend.
- Channel shift: paid traffic climbing means a marketing team with budget.
- New country traffic: international expansion before it is announced.
How accurate are website traffic estimates?
Accurate enough to rank big sites, and unreliable for small ones. Panel-based tools such as Similarweb and Semrush extrapolate from a sample of browsing, so a B2B site with a few thousand visits a month may show a number that is off by a large factor, or no data at all. SEO tools such as Ahrefs and DataForSEO estimate search traffic from rankings, which leaves out direct, referral, and paid social visits.
Pick one source, test it on 20 domains whose real traffic you know, such as your own and a few friendly customers, and then stick with it. Comparing a company's Similarweb number this month with its Semrush number last month produces fake growth.
How to use website traffic data in outbound
The play: once a month, pull a traffic estimate for every domain in your TAM from the same source and store it with the date. After three months you have your own trend line. Flag accounts that grew 30% or more over the quarter and are above your minimum size, add points in your score, and send them to a sequence about the problem growth creates for them.
Keep the number out of the first line unless you are sure of it. "Looks like traffic to your store has grown a lot since spring" is safe. "Your traffic grew 47.3%" invites a correction, because the prospect knows the real figure and yours is an estimate. Agencies and SEO sellers can run the inverse play on sudden drops, with a short note on what probably changed.
- Pull every domain from one source on the same day each month.
- Score on three-month growth, not on one month's jump.
- Set a size floor so tiny sites with noisy estimates do not trigger.
- Pair traffic growth with a second signal, such as hiring or funding, before you call it hot.
- Refer to growth in words, not exact figures.
When to get help with traffic-based targeting
Traffic data is cheap per domain and easy to misuse. The work is choosing a source that is accurate for your kind of account, pulling it on a schedule, and turning month-over-month change into a score your reps trust.
OneGTM tests traffic sources against domains with known numbers, builds the monthly pull into your TAM, and wires growth flags into scoring and outbound. You own the data and the workflows.
- You sell to ecommerce, media, or consumer brands and want to tier accounts by size.
- You want a monthly growth flag on every account in your TAM.
- You are weighing a Similarweb contract against pay-per-call sources.
- Your traffic numbers disagree across tools and nobody knows which to trust.
