# Best workflow automation tools for GTM teams (2026): what we run, and when a visual builder is enough

Workflow automation tools move data between your GTM systems and run the steps nobody should do by hand: enrich a new lead, score it, push it to the CRM, start a sequence, post the reply to Slack. For GTM teams the workflow automation tools split two ways. Visual builders such as n8n, Zapier, and Make, where you drag steps on a canvas, and code-first setups, where an AI coding agent writes the script and a scheduler runs it.

OneGTM runs almost everything code-first: Claude Code writes the jobs, Deepline handles the data calls, Supabase stores the results, and GitHub Actions or Railway run them on a schedule. That stack comes first, then the visual builders and AI agent tools worth knowing, with what each vendor publishes about price. Some links are referral links that may earn us a credit, which never changes what you pay or who is listed. Relay.app shut down in September 2026, so it is not listed.

Key takeaways

- OneGTM writes GTM automations with Claude Code and runs them on GitHub Actions or Railway, with Supabase as the database.
- Code-first jobs are cheaper at volume and easier to review and version than a canvas with 40 steps.
- Zapier is the easiest visual builder to start with; n8n is the cheapest to run at volume, and free to self-host.
- Clay is the strongest no-code option for enrichment-heavy tables, priced by actions and data credits.
- Relay.app shut down in September 2026. If you were on it, n8n or Zapier are the closest replacements.

## The automation stack OneGTM uses

We describe the workflow in plain English, Claude Code writes it as a script, and we commit it to git. Deepline handles enrichment and provider calls, Supabase holds the data, and a scheduled job on GitHub Actions or Railway runs it. Every change is a reviewable diff, and nothing depends on one person remembering how a canvas was wired. More on this in [Claude Code for GTM](https://getaob.com/claude-code-gtm).

### [Claude Code](https://claude.com/product/claude-code?utm_source=onegtm&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=workflow-automation-tools)

## Code-first vs visual builders

Visual builders win on the first day. Anyone can see what a zap does, and a simple workflow is live in ten minutes. They lose once a workflow gets long, runs often, or needs to be changed by someone who did not build it. Per-task pricing also adds up fast when you enrich thousands of leads a day.

Code used to be the slow option. With Claude Code writing the script from a plain-English description, it is now about as fast to build, costs only the compute and API calls, and sits in git where changes are reviewed and can be rolled back. That is why OneGTM runs client automations this way.

- Use Zapier or Make for low-volume glue between two apps.
- Use n8n if you want a canvas but expect real volume, or need to self-host.
- Use Clay when the work is mostly enrichment in a table.
- Use code with Claude Code when the workflow is core to pipeline, runs at volume, or touches many systems.

## GTM workflows worth automating first

Start with the jobs that run every day and that someone currently does by hand or forgets. These pay back in weeks.

- Enrich and score every new lead or signup, then write the result to the CRM.
- Watch for buying signals such as new hires or funding and push matched accounts to a list.
- Route inbound replies and positive responses to the right rep in Slack.
- Sync contacts from outbound tools such as Instantly and HeyReach back to the CRM.
- Send a weekly pipeline and campaign report to the team channel.

## Keeping automations running

Automations fail quietly. An API key expires, a provider changes a field name, or a CRM property gets renamed, and leads stop flowing without anyone noticing for weeks.

Whatever tool you use, log every run, alert on failures in Slack, and check counts daily against what you expect. In a code-first setup, store each run's results in a database such as Supabase so you can rerun or backfill. If you want this built for you, see our [AI automation consulting](https://getaob.com/ai-automation-consulting) page.

## When to get help with GTM automation

Most GTM teams have a dozen zaps nobody owns and a few spreadsheets that someone updates by hand on Mondays. The work is deciding what should run automatically, building it so it does not break quietly, and handing it over in a form your team can change.

OneGTM builds GTM automations with Claude Code, Deepline, and Supabase, scheduled on GitHub Actions or Railway, and moves fragile zaps into code where it makes sense. You own the repo and the data.

- Your Zapier or Make bill grows every month.
- Workflows break and nobody notices until leads go missing.
- You want to move off a visual builder, or off Relay.app after its shutdown.
- You want your team using Claude Code to build and change automations.

## Workflow automation tools FAQ

### What are the best workflow automation tools for GTM teams?

For simple automations, Zapier and Make. For volume or self-hosting, n8n. For enrichment-heavy work, Clay. OneGTM runs most client automations as code written with Claude Code, using Deepline for data calls, Supabase as the database, and GitHub Actions or Railway to run jobs on a schedule.

### Is n8n better than Zapier?

n8n is cheaper at volume, free to self-host, and handles code and AI agent steps well. Zapier is easier for non-technical users and has the largest app library. Pick Zapier for simple workflows built by marketers or reps, and n8n when an engineer owns the workflows and volume is high.

### Can Claude Code replace Zapier or n8n?

For many GTM workflows, yes. Claude Code writes the automation as a script, and a scheduler such as GitHub Actions or Railway runs it. You pay for compute and API calls instead of per task, and every change is versioned in git. Visual builders are still faster for small, low-volume glue between two apps.

### How much do workflow automation tools cost?

Zapier starts at $19.99 per month billed annually, n8n Cloud at EUR 20 per month billed annually, and Pipedream at $99 per month billed annually. Make and Zapier have free plans, and n8n's community edition is free to self-host. Clay starts at $167 per month billed annually.

### What happened to Relay.app?

Relay.app shut down in September 2026. Teams that used it for human-in-the-loop workflows usually move to n8n, Zapier, or Make, or to code-first jobs written with Claude Code.

### What GTM workflows should I automate first?

Lead enrichment and scoring, signal monitoring, reply routing to Slack, CRM sync from outbound tools, and weekly pipeline reports. These run every day and are usually done by hand or forgotten.

### Is Clay a workflow automation tool?

Partly. Clay runs enrichment, AI research, and HTTP calls row by row in a table and can run on a schedule and sync to a CRM, so it covers most enrichment workflows. For app-to-app automation outside a table, teams pair it with Zapier, n8n, or code.
